Tess Gerritsen’s series of books revolving around Medical Examiner Maura Isles and Detective Jane Rizzoli. I’m only most of the way through The Sinner right now, and I started with The Surgeon over a year ago. I got distracted with The Lord of the Rings for that year, and also read some Julie Garwood novels in between. :) You guys should check both authors out.
She has some writing quirks that are distracting sometimes, but she’s still a really great writer. I also recommend (not from the series):
