Sooo I actually made up my own thing for once, and I’m kinda proud of how it turned out. I patterned it using my measurements on newspaper. It was very much inspired by the things that River Tam (Summer Glau) wore on the set of Firefly. I was just going to make a skirt that overlapped in the front, but I really wanted to use this particular fabric and it couldn’t be just a skirt. I bought the fabric at Mill End Textiles in the bargain bin for 99 cents per yard. It’s a purple tie-dyed thick gauze. It’s not as sheer as I thought, but it’s certainly not very opaque, either. I plan on making a small bust-only tube top out of purple t-shirt fabric (also from Mill End) to go under it. Otherwise, a purple bra would look the least conspicuous while white is the most. The top is six pieces: front, back, two front triangle, and two back triangles. I meant for the back right triangle to overlap the left, but it got mixed up. The skirt is just two pieces, with the back piece being cut slightly larger on the sides than the front to make room for hips and to not be absolutely skin tight. At some point I plan to take the top of the skirt in a bit to be more waist-fit than hip-fit. Currently it needs to be folded down so that it doesn’t create a bump from folded on top of itself.
If anyone likes it enough, I might consider posting the pattern. Whether or not I want money for it depends on a) if anyone actually wants it, and b) if I can figure out how to scan it properly. What might be easier than scanning it would actually be to make a tutorial I suppose, so that measurements would be more customized to the wearer. Otherwise it is probably a simple one to figure out anyway if you’re even a slightly skilled sewer…I think? Anyway, I hope people like it. Even if no one does, I will definitely at least be wearing the top casually. The skirt makes it slightly more formal and also warmer. This thin fabric is surprisingly not too breathable.
